Training, Mentorship and Upskilling.

As I have written before, I have a passion for Training and Mentoring young professionals entering the Short-Term Insurance Industry in South Africa, and for that matter Africa.

I am very much aware of a huge skills gap in the industry, some professionals have obtained a Regulatory Diploma to be fit and proper in the industry, but practical skill is lacking. Whilst thinking this matter over, I came across The South African Insurance Association’s Bulletin (SAIA), heading “PROMOTING A TRUSTED & SUSTAINABLE NON – LIFE INSURANCE INDUSTRY FOR SOUTH AFRICA” dated November 2021. (Published on the Web).

In a previous document I wrote, the point was made that in 2022 one of the most sought-after professions would be teachers and Adult Lecturers. This is especially in the corporate world due to a lack of skills and professional education.

In this document not only in South Africa but worldwide, there are skills drain in the non-life insurance industry.

I quote “The requirement for a reskilling Revolution was adopted at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos in 2019”.

We in South Africa sit with a brain drain as skilled older professionals leave the industry, and younger entrants lose interest as they cannot be upskilled in a decent time as much senior staff advises that due to the skills shortage, so much strain is placed on them, they do not have the capacity to mentor.

This according to the report leads to poaching and job hopping, lack of interest to mention two.

Hence my passion is to make available training programs to the Insurance Industry, Insurers, Underwriting Managers, Brokers Junior Executives, mentors, to upskill and enhance professionalism.
